The Olathe City Council voted to update some rules related to motor scooter devices.

- Kids under 18 years old must wear a bicycle helmet when riding on an e-bike or e-scooter;
- E-scooters cannot be ridden on the road unless the speed limit is 30 mph or under and there’s no sidewalk;
- E-bikes may be ridden on roads with speed limits up to 40 mph;
- Riders of any bicycle or motorized device must yield to pedestrians and warn them before passing (ring your bell, “on your left”, etc.);
- 15 mph speed limit for e-bikes and e-scooters on the sidewalk.

“An e-bike versus a motorcycle — if there’s not pedal assistance with an e-bike, that is classified as a motorcycle,” Kennedy said. “And you have to have a license at 16 for that.”
