New York Times Reports 1.5 BILLION Revival For Country Club Plaza

Today, Kansas City's worst real estate scheme earns attention from the nation's paper of record.

The rub . . .

EPIC PLANS FOR TAXPAYER CASH DON'T MENTION PUBLIC HOUSING & PROTEST PROBS CONSTANTLY CONFRONTED BY THE PLAZA!!!

After Lockton moved out . . . The district is now amongst the walking dead.

And, of course, our blog community was the first to call out that Mayor Q helped to facilitate the demise of the district when he marched with activists during BLM riots and changed "No Justice, No Peace!!!" amid destructive demonstration from which The Plaza has never recovered.

Meanwhile . . .

Developers scramble to take away public park land, demand government subsidy from the feds on down AND turn the place into a mishmash of freebie dwellings, corporate welfare office space ALONG WITH a more accessible destination for activists.

Behind the scenes we've talked about how that smart money has already opted out and even a former council lady bailed on her nearby residence and moved out of KC before the horrible plan takes hold.

Meanwhile . . . NYT seems strangely optimistic . . . Take a peek:

"But while Country Club Plaza’s architectural charm has maintained its popularity, keeping those crowds coming has become more challenging. Like stores in many parts of the country, retailers at the plaza have for years lost ground to e-commerce.

"About one-third of the plaza’s storefronts and offices are vacant, and hundreds of millions of dollars are needed to repair and replace its aging sewer and water lines, parking garages and other infrastructure."
