Kansas City Transit Activist Clay Chastain Proclaims: Let The People Vote!!!

The latest petition update from a friend of the blog and Kansas City's most prolific petition gatherer . . .

Clay Chastain: Mayor Lucas... Let the People Vote!

A proposal for a Grand Entertainment Project...Downtown Royals Stadium... & a Petition for a Great Infrastructure Project... Citywide Airport Monorail... should both be placed before Citywide Voters or else (Anti-Vote) & (Anti-Petition) Mayor Lucas could Ruin it all for Kansas City.

While the City is abuzz with talk of a New Crown Center Ballpark District, a Petition from the People (to build the People an Affordable & Clean Transportation System) quietly nears completion. The Monorail Petition also calls for creating a Regional Transportation Center @ Union Station (Monorail stop, Streetcar stop, Johnson County Express Bus stop, City Electric Bus stop & Amtrak stop) that would enhance the success of a New (nearby) Downtown Stadium by providing fans alternative access to games. Such a Central Union Station Hub would provide Royals' fans New Green Mobility Options (to & from the games) that would in turn Mitigate (projected) Traffic Congestion, Pkg. Shortage & Public Safety Concerns, as well as protect the City Center from further expansion of the Asphalt Jungle. However, KC's Lame Duck Mayor stands to "Ruin it all" by not letting the people vote.

It would be unlike any major sporting event in America...thousands of fans arriving at a charming new Ballpark in Downtown KC on a Beautiful Monorail & other mobility options proposed by the Petition. However, Mayor Lucas stands to foul both these mutually-enhancing Projects by not allowing KC Voters to weigh in on 2-momentous decisions concerning the City's future.  Even though Lucas boasts that his administration is transparent, inclusive & seeks to work together to "build a stronger community", his warm fuzzy rhetoric does not comport with his "Anti-Petition" & "Anti-Vote" stance that is Not Transparent, Not Inclusive of Voters & Does Not work together with Voters to "Build a stronger Community".

No one can doubt that a $2 Billion Downtown "Ballpark District" (that not only requires KC taxpayers to guarantee $600 million in bonds, but would also dramatically alter the City Center) should be placed before Citywide Voters for their approval. No one can doubt either that a Petition to create a (transformational) 30-mile Monorail Spine (KC Zoo to Plaza, to Union Station Hub to Northland to KCI Airport) & other interconnected mobility options should also be placed before voters.

In order to promote transparency, consensus, gov't. trust & good will in the KC Community, Major Lucas & the City Council have a governmental & ethical duty to respect Kansas City, Missouri Voters, do what's best for KC & place both Improvement Projects on the same Ballot so that the Voters of KC - not just the Aristocracy of KC - can decide the future of KC.
