Kansas City Suffers Third Homicide Sunday

Police confront more deadly violence on local streets tonight as early year progress in curbing the number of homicide is slowly erased . . . Here is the report that KCPD share with police . . .

Homicide 9700 block of Holmes

Tonight about 9:15pm officers were dispatched to a sound of shots call near 97th and Holmes, while officers were on the way to the area, the call was upgraded to a shooting call involving a male shooting victim down in front of a residence.

On arrival officers located an adult male shooting victim, unresponsive in front of a residence in the 9700 Block of Holmes. Officers called for EMS who responded for treatment. EMS declared the victim deceased there at the scene.

Homicide detectives and Crime Scene Investigators have responded to the scene to canvass for witnesses and process the scene for evidence.

Preliminary indication is that the victim was at the location when he had an interaction with another subject. That interaction resulted in shots being fired and the victim struck. The suspect then left the scene prior to officers arrival.

This case is being investigated as a homicide and there are not any suspects in custody at this time.

Although uncommon, multiple homicide scenes are not unprecedented and there are contingencies in place for additional resources to be called upon to ensure thorough investigations and crime scene processing in such cases. Those contingencies were called into effect tonight to ensure enough investigators were in place at all 3 scenes.

If anyone was in this area and heard or saw anything or has any information, and has not yet talked to police, they are asked to contact Homicide detectives directly at 816-234-5043 or the TIPS Hotline anonymously at 816-474-TIPS. There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information submitted anonymously to the TIPS hotline.

We are committed to assisting victims of violent crimes through use of Missouri’s Protection Program for Victims/Witnesses of Violent Crime. Funding for temporary, or even permanent relocation, may be available but is subject to pre-approval by the State’s administering agency.
