Tonight we note more fatal gunfire on local streets and a reminder that local violence is quickly sparked despite lower crime numbers to start the year.
To be fair, unofficially, this is the 29th homicide so far in 2026 compared to 40 at this time last year.

Homicide 5700 block of Askew
This evening at 7:30 PM officers were dispatched to the 5700 block of Askew on a reported shooting. Numerous calls for service continued to come in advising a shooting had occurred.
Officers responded to the scene and located an adult male victim, lying in the street, unresponsive and suffering from believed gunshot trauma near 58th and Askew. Officers checked for a pulse and attempted to render any possible medical aid. EMS personnel responded shortly after and pronounced the victim deceased on scene.
Preliminary information indicates there was an interaction between the victim and multiple unknown males. That interaction escalated into gunfire for reasons currently unknown. The unidentified males left the scene in an unknown direction.
Homicide detectives in crime scene personnel have responded to the scene to begin collecting any evidence and gathering witness statements. Several individuals in the area have assisted responding law-enforcement officers in gathering viable information to help us better understand what transpired this evening.
A subject of interest has not been identified, and there is not currently anyone in police custody responsible for this incident at this time. This is being investigated as a homicide and is ongoing.
