Kansas City Late Night Friday Night Fight Sparks Deadly Gunfire

A second killing recorded in KC proper this evening marks to homicides in less than 24 hours . . .

Unofficially, this was the 36th homicide so far this year in Kansas City, Missouri compared to 44 homicides at the same time last year. 

Here's the report that police are sharing with local media . . .  

Homicide Independence and Monroe

This evening around 9PM, officers were patrolling the area of Independence Ave and Monroe Ave when they were flagged down by a person stating someone had been shot. 

Officers immediately responded to an adult male victim who was located lying in a grassy area suffering from apparent gunshot trauma and unresponsive. Officers performed medical aid and attempted to life saving measures while waiting for EMS to arrive. EMS transported the victim to an area hospital where he was declared deceased. 

Preliminary information indicated an interaction occurred between several individuals that escalated into shots fired and the victim being struck. An adult male suspect was observed fleeing the area on foot. Officers and detectives are making headway identifying a possible person of interest. No one is currently in police custody. 

Homicide detectives and crime scene personnel have responded to the scene to begin gathering evidence and collecting witness statements. This incident is being investigated as a homicide and is ongoing at this time.
