On the same day the U.S. Supreme Court was hearing arguments on President Trump's birthright citizenship order, Kansas City, Missouri leaders were celebrating the community's designation as a welcoming city by the group "Welcoming America."
That achievement took years of work to meet a series of standards showing Kansas City's commitment to immigrant inclusion.
"I think the president is looking to, frankly, violate the U.S. Constitution. Birthright citizenship has been clear since the founding of our republic," Mayor Lucas said.
