Once again we celebrate a tradition that offers locals one more way to step out into the real world and stop suffering under the misapprehension that life in Kansas City has anything in common with cattywampus social media comments.

Record Store Day was conceived in 2007 at a gathering of independent record store owners and employees as a way to celebrate and spread the word about the unique culture surrounding nearly 1400 independently-owned record stores in the US and thousands of similar stores internationally. The first Record Store Day took place on April 19, 2008. Today, Record Store Day is celebrated at independently-owned brick-and-mortar record stores around the world.

Any d-bag can buy merch from Amazon but stepping into a local record store realizes the history of neighborhoods, it engages our senses and puts us in the proximity of real people who also appreciate music. At the very least, it's one of many ways for locals to get more steps in today.
