Leavenworth CoreCivic Vote Tonight After Faith Community Protest

Clergy from Kansas and Missouri came together in Leavenworth on Monday afternoon to urge city commissioners not to approve a special use permit for CoreCivic to reopen its facility in town as an ICE detention center. The city commission is set to vote on the permit at its Tuesday meeting.

“We have concerns,” said pastor Tim Gray, who leads First Presbyterian in Leavenworth. “The last time they were here there was a lot of challenges that came with them. Particularly interacting with our city and commission. We also want to make sure that folks on the commission know that they have support to say no.”
