Kansas City Playlist: Songs For MAGA Iran 'Golden Age' Attack

Most people start online endeavors looking for friends, community, like-minded people, fellow travelers or just a connection in what seems like the infinite void of the universe and/or cyberspace.

Thankfully, here at TKC we've made contact with some very wonderful folks with great humor, wit, charm and a reasonable understanding about what we're trying to accomplish on this little corner of the Internets. Yes, there are always trolls lurking about but generally the good people we've come in contact with COMPLETELY OUTNUMBER any haters.

And so . . .

One of the goals of this online party, other than celebrating Insta hotties, is to move the Kansas City discourse forward to the best of our ability . . . Sometimes that's just a small acknowledgement from our MSM betters and other times it's highlighting stories and perspectives that aren't quite ready for prime time.

Right now . . .

There's an opportunity to talk about the current fighting in Iran with respect for conservative friends on the right wing.

A consideration tonight . . .

We can't help but notice some important MAGA resistance to U.S. & Israel strikes against Iran.

Progressives and dems can shout, protest and antagonize until they're blue in the face but that rarely moves the dial or so many voters in Kansas City and throughout red state Missouri & Kansas.

Accordingly, this note from American right-wing reactionary Matt Walsh is worth considering because it speaks from a decidedly "America First" perspective:

"You wouldn't know it based on what you see on this site, but there is actually a lane for people who are skeptical of military intervention and regime change wars but also aren't weeping for the Iranian regime and actively rooting for America to fail. Not only does the lane exist in real life but it's where like 90 percent of real people live."

A few things to consider about Matt Walsh . . .

There is no denying his MAGA credentials, he is nothing close to a RINO and his words have played an increasingly important part in Republican politics.

As tempted as we are to ignore social media slop, dismiss anything from a dude who makes a living by leveraging culture war generalizations . . . There is merit in his observation that we might see play out in the midterms where the most important question could be . . .

Does this feel like an American golden age?!?

As always, we try to keep an open mind on all things and look forward to any responses whilst the topic of gold inspires our www.TonysKansasCity.com tonight . . .

To start . . .

They're currently playing this song on the radio and it's okay even if it's probably a Johnson County wine mom anthem . . .

A bit of background:

"Golden" is a song performed by Ejae, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami as the fictional K-pop girl group Huntrix in the 2025 animated musical urban fantasy film KPop Demon Hunters. It was released on July 4, 2025, through Republic Records, as the second single from the film's soundtrack album.

Critics praised "Golden" for its lyrics and catchy composition. In addition to the overall success of the film's soundtrack, the song reached number one on the Billboard Global 200 and topped the charts in more than 30 countries, including South Korea, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Gold On The Ceiling by The Black Keys started out as hipster rock back in 2011 but very much like the precious metal . . . The track has retained its value and endures as old man rock as our millennial bros begin to show their age.

Including "Golden Years" by David Bowie is a no brainer but a lot of people don't know the story behind the song. Bowie produced the track when he was seemingly on top of the world and reaching a career pinnacle but while the song encourage optimism and even enjoyment, the star was struggling with an impending divorce, personal strife and an exhausting battle with addiction that actually erased the memory of recording this track and its accompanying album.

For the bridge, this somewhat recent rap track seems tragically apropos even if it's a bit nihilistic . . . The description: "GOLD STACKS" is the second track on Future's 2022 album, I NEVER LIKED YOU. Produced by D. Hill, the song is a high-energy "braggadocio" anthem where Future flexes his immense wealth, status, and lifestyle. Future boasts about his high booking fees, specifically claiming he charges $350,000 for a simple walkthrough at a club or event. He describes himself as a "rich junkie," candidly discussing his heavy drug use and how his wealth allows him to sustain it.

Finally, just for the boomers, we share a tranquil musical anthem that speaks to the bygone age of peace & love giving way to war justified by reasons that are never fully explained to the voting public with only hack pundits bullying the electorate into submission.

The backstory for this iconic song:

Neil Young wrote his only U.S. #1 hit "Heart of Gold" while recovering from a severe back injury in 1971. Because he could not stand up to play his electric guitar, he was forced to play his acoustic guitar while sitting down, resulting in the softer sound of his Harvest album.

As always, thanks for reading this week and have a safe & fun Saturday night.
