Kansas City Playlist: Pi Day Postscript

Just for the late night real ones . . . We tacitly stipulate that they can't all be winners yet we still want to keep to our schedule and so here's our inspiration for a musical share this evening . . .

We will take the pie.

And nostalgic pop music reference for pi/pie inspires tonight's www.TonysKansasCity.com playalist . . .

Forgive us because this choice was obvious but it speaks to "the foundations" of this blog as far as TKC's jr. high lizard brain is concern. A run fact about this track: Warrant's 1990 hit "Cherry Pie" was written in just 15 minutes on a pizza box to satisfy label demands for a smash hit. Despite becoming their biggest anthem, frontman Jani Lane famously despised it, regretting that it overshadowed his more serious songwriting and forced him to become the "Cherry Pie guy"

A math song explainer that helped to start the trend . . .

This track was a staple of the UK's Northern Soul scene and still holds up over time, at least .

Another obvious choice with affection for boomer readers . . .

Finally . . . An Americana anthem that, sadly, seems apropos amid so much conflict around the world . . . Instead, of the Don McLean original we found this worthwhile cover by John Mayer that nicely carries on the tradition of the classic . . .
