As we approach the official start of spring, warmer weather and what is traditionally the season of rising violence . . . It's import to note that KC's year-to-date homicide count now matches last year and the year before that . . . So claims of "progress" are becoming harder to justify as we move forward.

Homicide 26th and Prospect LATE DEATH
On 03-15-26, just after midnight, officers were dispatched to 26th and Prospect on a reported shooting. As officers arrived they were directed to a nearby alley where they located an adult female victim suffering from gunshot wounds.
KCFD EMS responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital with life threatening injuries. Assault squad detectives and crime scene personnel responded to process the scene and canvass the area for evidence.
On 03-17-26 detectives were notified that the victim died of her injuries. This is now being investigated as a homicide and homicide detectives have taken over the case. A subject of interest has since been taken into custody pending further investigation.
The victim has been identified as Kyrstin Lickhart W/F 01-17-1999.
If anyone was in the area and heard or saw anything or has any information they are asked to contact Homicide detectives directly at 816-234-5043 or the TIPS Hotline anonymously at 816-474-TIPS. There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information submitted anonymously to the TIPS hotline.
