Kansas City 2026 Homicide #23: Deadly Gunfire Near 71 Aftermath

The warmer weather uptick in local violence continues as it seems the quieter part of KC's crime scene is now complete . . . From near the road our blog community knows as the local "highway of death" here's the aftermath report and info that police have shared with local media . . . 

Homicide 55th and Chestnut

This evening just after 5:45 PM officers were dispatched to the area of 55th and Chestnut Avenue on a reported shooting. 

When officers arrived, they located in adult male victim, lying in a grassy area, unresponsive, and suffering from gunshot trauma. The victim was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. Officers on scene were updated the victim had succumb to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Detectives are currently working to determine what led up to the shooting and there is not currently any preliminary information available. A person of interest has not yet been identified and no one is in custody.

Homicide detectives and crime scene personnel have responded to the scene to begin collecting any evidence and gathering witness statements. This incident is being investigated as a homicide at this time and is ongoing.

Man killed in Kansas City shooting near 55th, Chestnut Tuesday night

The shooting was reported just after 5:45 p.m. in the area of East 55th Street and Chestnut Avenue, near 71 Highway.

Man found shot to death Tuesday night in a grassy area in east Kansas City, Missouri.

Kansas City, Missouri, police officers were sent on a shooting Tuesday evening and found a man shot to death in a grassy area on the city's eastside.
