We can only hope voters will remember this slap in the face when the next elections come along.

"Thursday, the city of Independence rejected a referendum effort aimed at challenging plans for this large-scale data center.
"After the council voted to approve the data center on Monday, opponents filed notice for a referendum Tuesday, but now the city says the referendum can't move forward . . . The city said ordinances tied to specific contracts take effect immediately and, under the city charter, cannot be challenged through a referendum.
"Opponents strongly disagree."
