Grocery Store Loophole Betrays Kansas City Liquor Store 'Shooter' Crackdown

Here's an important consideration from local merchants that has this effort looking more like a shakedown and nothing at all like a serious public safety effort . . .

This ordinance would not include grocery stores. Andy Doohan, a Managing Partner with Mike’s Wine and Spirits in Westport, believes this logic doesn’t make sense when it comes to public safety.

“If this is a public safety concern, then why are grocery stores in our zone able to sell the same products that they’re banning from our liquor store?” he said. “Why are they only choosing five neighborhoods in Kansas City where you can easily drive outside one of those neighborhoods to buy the same products?”
