For weekend Kansas City political junkies we've got important news to share . . .
TONY MILLER LAUNCHES GOP COMEBACK ELECTION BID FOR JACKSON COUNTY'S 3RD DISTRICT!!!!
Here's why we think this is important . . .
If she decides to fight for her job, we're not sure that Legislator Megan Marshall will be able to garner as much support as last time around given her rough alliance with recalled former Exec Frank White.
One more thing that only political insiders will understand . . .
Jackson County courthouse insiders really did an "about-face" on Mr. Miller during his prior tenure at the end of the COVID-era. He's a power player lawyer with a great many connections but a "reckoning" amongst progressives worked against him in a lot of different ways . . .
Translation . . .
For some dumb reason, Kansas City Democratic Party leaders seem to have some kind of pathological problem supporting white dudes . . . That's a TKC take as a Latino looking from the outside as we notice progressives continuing to lose power around the edges of what was formerly one of the most solidly blue strongholds in all of the Midwest . . .
Still . . . It's better to let Mr. Miller speak for himself . . .
And so . . .
A quote from Miller's campaign material that seem to be gaining traction and his party switch . . .
"My decision to change parties was not made lightly. I know it will raise questions, and that’s fair. The truth is, my values—supporting working families, defending individual freedoms, prioritizing public safety, and insisting that government live within its means—have stayed the same. It’s our political landscape that has shifted. I refuse to choose party loyalty over doing what I believe is right for the people I represent.
"As a Republican candidate for the Jackson County Legislature, I will focus on three core priorities:
"Lowering the burden on taxpayers by demanding real accountability for how every dollar is spent and focusing on tax assessments.
"Making our neighborhoods safer by supporting law enforcement and proven crime-reduction strategies.
"Restoring trust in county government through transparency, ethics, and common-sense reform such as enacting term limits and electing a tax assessor.
"To lifelong Republicans, I ask you to judge me by my record of service, my willingness to listen, and my commitment to these shared principles. To Democrats and independents who have supported me before, I want you to know: I am still fighting for you—your safety, your pocketbook, and your quality of life. My party label has changed; my dedication to this community has not . . ."
