Kansas City Royals boss John Sherman is the boss of the home team but, just like the rest of us . . . He has homies who demand answers and help to drive local conversation.
Credit where it's due . . .
Kansas City public policy expert Patrick Tuohey was the FIRST to reveal that Sherman might be on his way out if he can't keep partners happy.
Now we merely have a few more deets to add to the discussion . . .
Investors in the Kansas City Royals seem to be growing tired of CEO Sherman and his cagey style of doing biz. Tough negotiation tactics are great for corporate profits but there seems to be a sense that ongoing discussions have eroded public goodwill for the home team.
Here's the word on the QT and very hush, hush . . .
"Sherman is killing everybody with his back and forth stalling tactics. I'm certain that's how he made his billions because it's just easier to give him everything he wants in order to make him go away. But baseball is about crowd pleasing and it's safe to say that investors aren't happy with the current situation. If the deal isn't closed soon, I think we're going to start hearing more outright discontent."
However . . .
THE STORY DOESN'T STOP THERE BECAUSE SHERMAN MIGHT SHARE THE SAME DISDAIN FOR HIS PARTNERS!!!
Another quote hits home . . .
"Billionaires buy sports teams in order to create a legacy, to seem larger than life and become part of a city's history. Anybody who has dealt with Sherman over the past year seems to get the impression that his ownership experience doesn't seem to be living up to expectations . . .
"He wanted to be beloved but locals have turned him into a villain, he wanted to help build downtown Kansas City but activists have tarnished his reputation and created a perception of him as a greedy oligarch. Sherman got into this deal for all the right reasons and he seems to have been disappointed at every turn by local politics that were much more corrupt than he imagined . . . There's a really good chance that if he can't get a good deal . . . His role with the team could DRAMATICALLY change and if that happens all bets are off."
Brief TKC aside . . . Like it or not, Salt Lake City is listening. But I digress . . .
Accordingly . . .
We notice the mayor working to seal a deal quickly and that kind of plays into some of the frustration we're hearing behind the scenes . . . Check-it . . .
As far as when there might be a resolution, Sherman did not have a timeline for a decision, only saying that he thinks a deal will come “sooner rather than later.” The Royals’ lease at the Truman Sports Complex, where Kauffman Stadium is located, ends after the 2030 season.
