Kansas City residents "on the nice side of the bridge" have been demanding more representation in local politics for decades.
KCMO disdain for the Northland had been apparent in nearly every recent major civic action.
A few examples . . .
Redistricting after the latest census literally flipped the Northland on its head . . . Oldsters remember at the outset of his Mayoral career, then Mayor Cleaver dumped a landfill across the bridge because of the Northland's lack of support . . . And just recently one of the strongest Northland reps was booted off the police board in a scheme that was OBVIOUSLY hatched on the 29th floor.
Nevertheless . . .
Now that economic "momentum" has moved away from Downtown, the Northland remains the fastest growing part of Kansas City and they might actually realize some gains in upcoming elections.
However . . .
Were not certain if the current crop of elected leaders will be able to overcome the KCMO status quo that continually overlooks THOUSANDS of Northland voters.
And all this leads us to a new contender . . .
P.J. Guastello is a political neophyte but well known in Kansas City metro biz circles. His brother is Union Station leader George Guastello and until now P.J's municipal activities have been confined to fundraising for charitable causes. However . . . We're hearing rumors that he might be cutting in line to take stab at the top job at city hall.
With the Mayor Pro Tem likely out of commission there are still obstacles in his way . . . However, Guastello supporters think he can overcome them . . .
First . . .
This might sting but . . . Like former council lady Deb Hermann who was exceptionally qualified to be Mayor and was a tireless advocate for the Northland . . . Current Councilman Wes Rogers might be too frumpy for the job.
And then . . .
Current council dude Crispin Rea could also take the Northland vote with so much union support. But critics question his "personality deficit" and so much education working against him when it comes to talking to municipal voters already suffering from ADHD.
Meanwhile, insiders tell www.TonysKansasCity.com to watch this Northland power player as the election draws near . . . BTW, that photo is an AI composite that might look a bit too Mexican for an Italian guy but that's probably because the racist machines know that TKC is handling the prompts.
