Mayor Q Enacts KCMO Single-Serve Liquor Bottle & 40oz. Ban

Everything that's old is new again in Kansas City.

Accordingly, and just for #TBT . . . Mayor Q is bringing back the 40oz. beer ban from the 90s and also cracking down on single-serve "shooter" bottles as well.

Again . . . Because we remember the ban when it was pioneered not so long ago . . .

WHY BAN BOOZE BOTTLES WHEN IT'S CLEAR THEY PROHIBITION DOESN'T WORK?!?!

Two more things . . .

The precedent of special legislation for the East side should be troubling for our urban neighbors . . . AND it's telling the Mayor Q is not crafting legislation with help from President and CEO of the Urban League of Greater Kansas City, Gwen Grant . . .

Here's a preview . . .

"Under the plan, stores in areas of high concentration in liquor sales and secondary criminal activity would be prohibited from selling single containers of hard liquor nips and minis with more than 35 percent alcohol content, as well as malt beverages in containers of 40 ounces or less.

"The measure is a focused, community-driven response to ongoing quality-of-life concerns, such as violence, loitering, public disorder, and litter, identified by residents and public safety officials."

"We’re proud to have the support of neighborhood leaders and the Kansas City Urban League."

Mayor Q On FB: "Today, I joined Councilwoman Melissa Robinson in introducing the Retail Alcohol Impact Area Plan to address public safety concerns in particularly urban Kansas City neighborhoods with a high concentration of liquor stories impacted by the sale of single-serve, high-alcohol products."
