In a joint statement, Fourth District councilmembers said the Midtown Costco is “an essential resource for thousands of Kansas Citians,” particularly residents in their district who rely on it for access to healthy foods and services.
The statement comes as the city considers options to try to prevent major changes at the Linwood Boulevard location. Costco has proposed converting the store into a business-center format, a model that typically caters to commercial customers and often eliminates amenities like the food court and certain retail departments.
Councilmembers said the proposal raises “serious concerns about access to services and urban design.”
