Mayor & Council Fight To Maintain Midtown Kansas City CostCo Status Quo

TKC Fun Fact . . . The original GLOVER PLAN to build up this area hoped to create JOBS and not just secure convenience for local fatties and suburbanites commuting for discount booze.

In a joint statement, Fourth District councilmembers said the Midtown Costco is “an essential resource for thousands of Kansas Citians,” particularly residents in their district who rely on it for access to healthy foods and services.

The statement comes as the city considers options to try to prevent major changes at the Linwood Boulevard location. Costco has proposed converting the store into a business-center format, a model that typically caters to commercial customers and often eliminates amenities like the food court and certain retail departments.

Councilmembers said the proposal raises “serious concerns about access to services and urban design.”
