Kansas City Mayor Q Stands Up For Trans Rights Amid Crackdown

As we noted . . . This issue primarily serves as a distraction for American voters but that doesn't mean it's not important to document the conversation as Kansas City Mayor Q looks to a "broader constituency" whilst he ramps up his national media game.

Here's his recent statement:  

I’ll never pretend to speak for my state, but I will for my city.  You are welcome. You are loved. You are respected in Kansas City.  Everyone.  That’s what I learned from my family, from my church, from Hutchinson, from life here in KCMO.

"The Legislature passed an obnoxiously cruel law not just targeting bathrooms but also trans folks’ very identities. Between Wednesday and Thursday, Senate Bill 244 took effect and apparently stripped transgender Kansans of their driving privileges and ID documents. A national organization, Trans Liberty PAC, called for an emergency evacuation of the state.

"I understand why. My heart and whole chest ache.

"But I offered this plea to trans Kansans: Please don’t leave."

Transgender Kansans had their IDs invalidated overnight, causing confusion and panic

Some transgender Kansans received letters urging them to request new IDs that conflict with their gender identity and presentation, because their current ones are "invalid immediately." It's the result of a new law that also regulates which bathrooms transgender people are allowed to use.
