Defensive Olathe Mayor Admits He Doesn't Know Much About Chiefs Deal

Politicos across Kansas continue to take heat for signing a blank check . . . Credit where it's due, this suburban leader openly admits that he has NO IDEA about the deal in which he's now neck deep.

Take a look . . .

Olathe Mayor John Bacon agreed the headquarters and training facility itself would provide little to no sales tax revenue. Bacon said the sales and hotel tax revenue would come from the additional $100 million development the Chiefs plan to build on the site — the hotel, restaurants and retail.

How that would draw tourism is unclear. Some have asked if the Chiefs will move their training camp there or open the site to youth leagues. Bacon said he has heard only speculation from the public on that, but nothing from the Chiefs. He said he has heard the team discuss the possibility of a fan fest of some kind on the site.

“I’m guessing that there will be some possible way for fans that want to come experience the Chiefs will be able to spend money while they’re there, stay in the hotel, eat in the restaurant,” Bacon said.
