Council Dude Duncan Blasts KCPD Deadly Force Amid Budget Crisis

Activists and elected officials pushed back against Kansas City Police & Chief Graves during today's budget crisis hearing.

(Chief) Graves explained why the department is now making cuts just to support basic services.

The biggest drivers behind the shortfall, according to the chief: legal settlements, excessive overtime, and staffing challenges caused by the department being understaffed.

And here's the showdown highlight . . . 

Councilman Jonathan Duncan, an Army veteran, focused on (an) Officerwho has killed three people and cost the department millions of dollars in settlements, yet remains employed.

“It’s distressing to me that I had a greater expectation of conduct in a warzone, then police officers have on the street. My escalation of force and rules of engagement were more strenuous then you’re allowing your officers to conduct themselves for our residents and that is unacceptable,” Duncan said.
