Behind the scenes, on the QT and very hush, hush . . . The Royals have a new offer that's much better than anything either Kansas or Missouri is putting on the table.
In fact . . .
We suspect that insiders sent this tidbit our way because they don't like the current narrative that the Royals are "running out of options" according to cowtown news leaders.
A new downtown stadium, public adoration & a better chance at more profits along with a guarantee for MLB approval is just some of what's in this honey pot out West.
And so, as always, it's our jorb to turn the Kansas City news scene on its head.
A taste of the news that local TV stations will have to work on over the weekend . . .
SALT LAKE CITY SWEETENS A POTENTIAL DEAL WITH THE ROYALS SO MUCH THAT EVEN DIE HARD LOCAL OWNERSHIP STRUGGLE TO RESIST THE IDEA OF A MORE PROFITABLE TEAM AND DOING BIZ IN A BETTER ECONOMY THAN FLYOVER COUNTRY!!! SALT LAKE CITY IS BOOMING, IS THAT TRUE OF OUR KC METRO?!?
Of course . . .
Insiders share a few deets with www.TonysKansasCity.com in order to explain the thesis . . .
- It's already widely known that both SLC and Nashville have expressed interest in the Royals.
- The Royals DON'T LIKE WASHINGTON SQUARE PARK. They were bullied into that option by lawyers and developers . . . Their first choice was the Crossroads. And the punchline is that the Royals haven't EVER been excited about the idea of squeezing into a smaller space and creative a traffic jam nearly 200 times a year.
- The 18th & Vine plan has been flat out rejected as an exercise in corruption and nightmarish crime waged against fans.
- Insiders from here to Jeff City already understand that Clay County is the best hope of keeping the Royals in the metro but Northland politicos are playing hardball with the team and mistakenly imagine that a BILLIONAIRE is locked into cheap news stories about limited options that dominate cowtown media outlets.
- Let's not forget that EVERYONE is lying about stadium deals . . . The Chiefs lied about not wanting a dome, the football front office lied about continuing discussions with Jackson County after the vote failed, the Royals lied about "concrete cancer" at the K and then "Save The K" activists lied about the team being persuaded to stay at the Truman Sports Complex. The whole conversation has been nothing but year after year of deception and serves mostly a pastime for mostly retired newsies and all manner of failed journalists.
Meanwhile . . .
SLC is coming to the Royals with a better stadium deal than ANYTHING available locally and, best of all, majority owner John Sherman might be welcomed to Utah as a hero rather spending all of his goodwill like Clark Hunt and/or conducting some kind of sketchy tax deal with Mayor Q.
Developing . . .
