It's not quite news but important to mark the moment in time and we liked the lead photo making the rounds . . . Here are the basics:
"Starting today, Jan. 12, officers from the Kansas City Missouri Police Department (KCPD) are wearing new uniforms made of modern-day materials that are more functional for 2026 law enforcement needs.
"The new uniform is a navy blue color, transitioning away from the French blue uniform that KCPD has worn since November of 1984. It is made of a lighter stretch material, which also repels fluid, breathes better, and provides UV protection. Twenty officers, men and women, tested the new uniform, and the response was overwhelmingly positive.
"Significant technology advancements in clothing materials necessitated the change from KCPD’s outdated materials in the French blue uniform. Additionally, the French blue uniforms were custom-made for KCPD, making them less available. After extensive research, it was not possible to replicate the French blue uniforms using modern-day technology due to the way the materials absorb color.
"Officers are also wearing a patch on both sleeves. KANSAS CITY is boldly displayed on the patch. The year “1874” reflects the year KCPD originated. The interior color is French blue, paying homage to the department’s past. This new patch matches the new uniform’s look and preserves KCPD’s storied history of service to Kansas City."
