Kansas City Small Biz Fears World Cup Boycott Against MAGA

Local news is so busy sharing World Cup talking points from 12th & Oak that they're missing the big picture.

WORSENING THREATS OF WORLD CUP 2026 BOYCOTT GAINS TRACTION GLOBALLY!!!

Agree or disagree with the reasoning, there's no denying the uptick in efforts of nations across the world to lash out at Prez Trump and U.S. military policy.

Over the past week we've seen talk about World Cup ticket cancellations spread and even domestic protest over the deadly shooting of Renee Good has ramped up the chatter.

We reached out to one local biz that's participating in local KC World Cup preparations and here's what they said off the record . . .

"How are we supposed to plan for this??? It's insane. I have no idea who Trump is going to invade next or what kind of crazy thing is going to happen with NATO. What I do know is that my business will have to budget for extra employees, materials and all kinds of resources and at the end of the day it could all be for nothing. What's worse is that we've had very little guidance on contingencies from KCMO or Visit KC. There's a very real risk we're going to be left in the dark with no option but to take a massive loss if promises about 650,000 people coming to Kansas City don't materialize."

 In the meantime . . .

Here's a peek at the worsening outcry from the international community against MAGA and efforts to demonstrate dissent by way of boycotting World Cup 2026.

A total of 11 U.S. cities will host the 2026 FIFA World Cup and are expected to pay millions of dollars to fund the events, creating an estimated budget shortfall for host cities of around $250 million in what critics have called “the worst deal in FIFA World Cup history.” Nevertheless, Trump has celebrated the tournament coming to the United States, after aggressively lobbying for years to secure the hosting rights.

However, in the wake of the killing of 37-year-old Renee Good – the Minnesota woman who was fatally shot by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent on Wednesday – and Trump’s subsequent deployment of over 100 more agents to the state, critics have increased calls for sports fans worldwide to boycott the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

“Would you have gone to watch the Olympics in Nazi Germany in 1936?” asked Pekka Kallioniemi, a Finnish social media analyst with a focus on propaganda and disinformation, in a social media post on X Friday. “If the answer is no, it’s time to cancel your US World Cup tickets.”
