Kansas City Overnight Gunfire Kills Victim Working On Car

Depending on recent returns from the medical examiner . . . This might be the 2nd or 3rd homicide this year so far . . . Here is the narrative and the tragic reality on local streets: 

Homicide 16th and Fremont  

This morning just before 1 AM officers were dispatched to the area of 16th St. and Fremont Avenue on a reported shooting.

Officers arrived and located an adult male victim inside of a vehicle unresponsive and suffering from gunshot trauma. Officers attempted to render medical aid until EMS personnel responded and transported the victim to an area hospital for treatment. The victim ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by hospital staff.

Preliminary information indicates the victim was outside working on a vehicle when an interaction between the victim and another adult male escalated into gunfire. The suspect left the scene prior to police arrival. We do not currently have a subject of interest identified and no one is in police custody. 

Homicide detectives and crime scene personnel have responded to the scene to begin collecting witness statements and gathering any evidence. This incident is being investigated as a homicide at this time and is ongoing.
