Allow us just a moment of somewhat serious conversation . . .
Our thesis . . .
Real leadership against crime for Mayor Q could be achieved if he steps across partisan lines in order to endorse former Council lady Heather Hall for police board confirmation.
Right now hapless Missouri Democrats are using the issue of her confirmation as partisan wedge whilst completely ignoring local public safety priorities.
Also . . .
Anybody talking about "local control" in 2026 is just allowing themselves to be a useful idiot for Missouri Democrats.
However . . .
We know that Mayor Q has worked closely with the former Council Lady and he likely understands that she is expertly qualified and deserves to take her rightful place on the KC Police Board.
Mayor Q showing leadership against a cynical partisan move would do a lot toward restoring faith in his concern for public safety and send a message that the business of keeping local streets safe is far more important than election season pandering ahead of midterms.
But this wouldn't be just an altruistic play . . .
Mayor Q supporting the Governor's pick for police board also silences Republican critics who love to aimlessly rant about "blue city" crime without any hint of solutions and/or offering only dumb ideas that would get them thrown of office or a job if they ever uttered them in polite company or from anywhere but behind a keyboard and troll account on X.
Put simply . . . And once again . . .
We know that that Mayor thinks highly of Heather Hall and her dedication to public safety, it's the right thing to do to support her in public and show respect and leadership for community above partisan ploys.
Like everything . . .
The Mayor has a choice about his priorities and this situation would/could/should serve as a demonstration of his willingness to support the people who support police . . .
Of course, we'll share the view from pro progressive friends for balance . . .
"A Missouri state senator is attempting to block Gov. Mike Kehoe’s appointment of Heather Hall to the Kansas City Board of Police Commissioners, saying Hall cannot provide impartial oversight of the department."Sen. Maggie Nurrenbern, a Northland Democrat, wrote to Gov. Kehoe this week, saying she believes anyone placed on the board should be independent from the department. Because Hall is also from the Northland, Nurrenbern’s approval is needed before the full senate can vote on confirmation."
