Kansas City Double Shooting At Prospect Popeye's Kills One

Tonight we share this update on the latest spate of deadly local violence despite cold winter temperatures.

Unofficially, this is KCMO homicide #9 so far this year compared to 12 at this time last year. 

Here is the info police are sharing with local media . . .  

Homicide 31st and Prospect Ave. 

Tonight just after 8pm officers were dispatched to 31st and Prospect on a shooting call at a restaurant there.

On arrival they located 2 adult male shooting victims inside the restaurant, one of the victims was alert and responsive, the second victim was unresponsive. 

Officers rendered aid and called for EMS to the scene.  EMS transported the responsive victim to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, he was last listed in stable condition.

EMS took over treatment of the second, unresponsive victim and ultimately declared him deceased here at the scene. 

Homicide detectives are at the scene and have taken over the investigation. They are talking to people who were at the scene when officers arrived. Crime scene investigators are also processing the scene for all available evidence.

Preliminary information indicates that one or more people were inside the restaurant when an interaction between multiple people escalated to gunfire. That gunfire struck both victims. The suspect or suspects then left the restaurant in an unknown direction. 

If anyone was in the restaurant or nearby and heard or saw anything or has any information they are asked to contact Homicide detectives directly at 816-234-5043 or the TIPS Hotline anonymously at 816-474-TIPS. There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information submitted anonymously to the TIPS hotline.

We are committed to assisting victims of violent crimes through use of Missouri’s Protection Program for Victims/Witnesses of Violent Crime. Funding for temporary, or even permanent relocation, may be available but is subject to pre-approval by the State’s administering agency.
