Allow us two horrible insights . . .
With respect to both sides of the debate following the shooting death of Renée Good by an ICE agent:
Does the entirety of this conversation normalize the use of deadly force against the citizenry by federal authorities???
The question merits some attention inasmuch as supporters of the action would be hard-pressed to oppose the same level of violence in the future when their opponents invariably garner more political power.
The comparison of this deadly shooting to the killing of Ashli Babbitt might not be perfect but there are some parallels worth considering at least in terms of rhetoric & discourse.
A more trivial concern . . .
The tag "ICE Out For Good" is horrible branding if only because it sounds like a fundraiser and would signal to the casual viewer (i.e. most people) that ICE is doing a really great job . . . Which leads us to believe that this protest and the colder weather might inspire a great many protesters to stay home . . .
Either way . . . Today's festivities inspire us to consider more about this tragic episode that offers a preview of midterm elections . . .
Kansas City's "ICE Out For Good" vigil and demonstration is set to take place Saturday at Mill Creek Park on the Plaza from 3:30-5pm.
A "rescue democracy" event will happen at the same place from 12-2pm.
The event pages call for a "commitment to nonviolent action" and ask participants to act lawfully and de-escalate potential conflicts.
