Kansas City Activist 'ICE OUT' Joins Nationwide General Strike

Today progressive organizers across the nation and our metro have mobilized to an American general strike against ICE.

Locally the effort has more support than we would have expected . . . There are several Kansas City businesses that plan to shut down today.

To be fair, in this economy, there are a lot more businesses that can't afford to close shop so, instead, they're showing solidarity by holding in-house events & fundraisers in solidarity.

For example . . .

A drink at Kansas City's favorite downtown lady sports bar "The Dub" will help benefit an immigration network defense team.

Scroll around social media and notice a great many other local places using this same tactic.

Meanwhile, per ushe, local students don't need a lot of encouragement to skip school.

And so we open the question to readers . . .

HOW WILL LOCALS JOINING THE "ICE OUT" GENERAL STRIKE IMPACT KANSAS CITY MOVING FORWARD?!?

A few things to consider . . . Inasmuch as we've already been surprised by a great many locals braving the cold in order to continue protesting on local streets . . .

So far it's clear that the sale of a local building for upcoming federal use is still moving forward despite a "moratorium" against a detention facility.

It won't take much for today's action ahead of the midterms & in the middle of the Missouri session to inspire a bit more hateration from GOP dominated Jeff City.

However . . . Our friends in Kansas seem to be making a bit more progress in winning elected office and so this kind of event might provide yet another "inflection point" for Midwest progressives overall.

We'll wait and see and then report back . . . For now . . .

Here's one of many cowtown calls to action that offers more insight on the event . . .

"We’re joining partners and community members to stand up against ICE violence, to stop Platform Ventures from selling a massive warehouse to DHS/ICE for detention and enforcement.

"Folks in KC have been clear: we don’t want ICE cages in our communities. Not here. Not now. Not ever. PERIOD."
