Kansas City 2026 Homicide #8: Deadly Midtown Gunfire At Linwood & Broadway

This one is worse than it seems . . .

From what we've heard so far . . . Gunfire broke out near an intersection in broad daylight and sent many commuters into panic mode.

The bright side is that there is a ton of video surveillance in and around the corridor.

For now, here is the info police are sharing with media as their investigation continues . . .

Homicide Linwood and Broadway

Tonight right at 4:30pm officers were called to Linwood and Broadway on a sound of shots call. While en route officers were advised there was a person possibly shot inside a vehicle there.

On arrival officers were directed to a vehicle near the intersection where they located an adult male shooting victim unresponsive alone inside the vehicle. Officers called for EMS who responded for treatment of the victim. EMS subsequently transported the victim to the hospital where he was ultimately declared deceased by medical personnel.

This case is being investigated as a homicide, and Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators have responded to the scene. They are canvassing for witnesses and processing the scene for all available evidence.

Preliminary information from callers and people at the scene when officers arrived indicates the victim was inside the vehicle when another vehicle pulled along side his vehicle and shots appear to have been fired from that vehicle into the victim vehicle striking the victim.

This is a heavily traveled area with vehicle and foot traffic at this time of day, detectives are optimistic that there could be multiple very valuable witnesses. If anyone was in the area and heard or saw anything or has any information they are asked to contact Homicide detectives directly at 816-234-5043 or the TIPS Hotline anonymously at 816-474-TIPS. There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information submitted anonymously to the TIPS hotline.

We are committed to assisting victims of violent crimes through use of Missouri’s Protection Program for Victims/Witnesses of Violent Crime. Funding for temporary, or even permanent relocation, may be available but is subject to pre-approval by the State’s administering agency.
