A Jackson County legislator will push a new ordinance this week that would ban law enforcement officers from wearing masks and hiding their identities while on duty.
Ordinance 6050 was drafted by Manny Abarca, who said it is needed to rebuild public trust in law enforcement. The measure would prohibit authorities from concealing their faces or badges during the performance of their official duties.
“When ICE comes into our community, when any authority comes into our community and says I’m going to cover my face. I don’t have to tell you who I am, I don’t have to tell you my badge number, it hurts community policing,” Abarca said.
