Independence, Missouri Politicos Decry Legal Weed Smoking In Public

Public posturing tacitly turns police into security guards and kinda ignores that the Great State Of Missouri is now just another outlet dealing in vice . . .

"While recreational marijuana use is legal in the state the Missouri Constitution allows cities and counties to regulate when it can be consumed in public.

"Independence leaders updated laws when Missouri legalized marijuana in 2022. Now they are considering making it illegal to consume marijuana for recreational purposes in any public space.

"Council members tentatively approved adding the following subsection to the city’s code during a meeting on January 5:

" 'Consumption of marijuana in a public place, which is any location accessible to the general public, other than in an area licensed by the authorities having jurisdiction over the licensing and/or permitting of said activity.'

"The first reading passed by a vote of 7-0."
