Adiós Kansas City Westside La Fonda

We finish the week and start the new year with news about the end of an era in Kansas City history.

For nearly half a century, La Fonda El Taquito has been the premier neighborhood hangout & political staging ground for the local Mexican-American, Chicano & Latino community. Today, owners announced their retirement.

As far as TKC is concerned, this is where we met the world of local politics . . . From Mayors to council members and even a former senator who is currently doing time in the federal pen . . . So many barrio power players and public officials did a great deal of their biz at this venue and the place offered TKC a real world window into how neighborhood biz is REALLY conducted over delicious tacos.

Very few places have garnered this kind of staying power and so the departure deserves a mention.

Hola Familia,

We wanted to let you all know our last day of service will be 1/31/26. We are so thankful for each and every one of our customers & we would love for you to come in and enjoy one last meal.

After 47 years in business, it is time to end this chapter & for us to enjoy retirement.

Thank you again for your patronage over the years, so many great memories have been made & meals and drinks shared with friends and family.

With love, Sandy & Maria
