At Kingston Lake Park, the owner of a business in the area reported an odor to the Overland Park Fire Department early Thursday. Hazardous material crews investigated and determined the odor was likely from an off-road diesel fuel spill.
City staff worked with the Johnson County Department of Health, Kansas Department of Health and Environment and the Environmental Protection Agency to monitor the park and the lake water.
They determined the park, playground, and walking trail are safe and will reopen Saturday.
