"Rep. Scott Miller, R-St. Charles, is proposing to ban companies from giving children access to some AI companion chatbots. Miller wants to ban people who run a website, app, software, or a program from allowing children to access companion chatbots for recreational, relational, or companion purposes.
"Under House Bill 1742, they would be required to verify the age of their users.
"Another bill he is proposing would ban AI systems being recognized as a person, spouse, partner, or an executive. They could not be legally capable of owning or controlling property, including intellectual, financial, and digital assets."
