Constant TKC readers might expect clowning and snark but we're gonna go in the opposite direction for Sunday . . .
In an op/ed that's actually VERY BRAVE, a local shared his testimony about the dangers of pr0n addiction and struggles with adult material.
However . . .
The main concern in the pr0n debate is now to protect youngsters which we should all agree is the most important AND THEN how to preserve freedom of speech & expression protected by the Constitution. Sadly, debate over adult material is hopelessly moralistic and ignores the uncomfortable reality wherein pr0n is now part of mainstream American culture.
And, pun intended, here's the rub . . .
Conservatives and many Republicans don't have very much support or the will to enact effective pr0n bans.
Instead . . .
One or two company crackdowns give a chance for hypocritical grandstanding that ignores adult material easily available on most social media apps that government doesn't have the power to regulate.
Example . . .
Does any Republican have the juice to go after their daddy & future trillionaire Elon Musk regarding all of the explicit smut on the X app?!?
Didn't think so . . .
Still, the debate about access, legality and freedom regarding adult material is worth considering along with this thoughtful testimony in today's newspaper . . .
"I say this not as a culture warrior, but as someone who lived through it. I struggled with a pornography addiction for 40 years . . . Like many others, I used it the way people use drugs or alcohol, to numb emotional pain. In 2020, through a newfound source of strength in Jesus Christ, and confronting the underlying issues in my life, I was able to break free. Since then, I have worked with other men who desperately want to stop but find themselves unable to do so."
