Kansas City Chiefs Exodus Aftermath: Who Should We Blame?!?

One of our ALL-TIME FAVORITE TKC READERS offers an apt summary of our situation and provides valuable context and perspective . . . Here's the word:

Chiefs' Exodus to Kansas: Dems' Epic Fail, and GOP's Too-Little-Too-Late Rescue Attempt

Well, KC, the ink's barely dry on Kansas' big win, and here we are – the Chiefs are officially ditching Missouri for the Sunflower State. That shiny new $3 billion domed stadium across the border? Yeah, it's happening, thanks to those STAR bonds Kansas lawmakers just rubber-stamped. But let's not kid ourselves: this disaster didn't start in Topeka. It kicked off right here in Jackson County, where Democrats like County Executive Frank White and Mayor Quinton Lucas fumbled the ball so hard it's a wonder we didn't hear the whistle for unnecessary roughness.

Frank White, the ex-Royals legend turned ineffectual politician, couldn't come up with any sensible negotiation on the Arrowhead renovations. His "no compromise" stance on the sales tax extension? Pure ineptness that turned voters off and left the Chiefs' owners with no choice but to look elsewhere.

And Quinton Lucas? The mayor who's more focused on climbing the D.C. ladder than fixing local messes, Lucas couldn't collaborate with a mirror, let alone business leaders or state officials. His obsession with scoring a cabinet gig in some future Biden 2.0 administration meant he treated the stadium deal like everything else in his 6 year tenure--a pointless sideshow beneath him.

Teamwork? Nah, not when your resume's on the line. These Jackson County Dems turned a slam-dunk retention plan into a voter-rejected nightmare back in April 2024, and now we're paying the price.

But wait, let's give credit where it's sorta due – or at least attempted. Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe did try to swoop in like a late-game hero. He called a special legislative session in June 2025, pushing for state bonds to cover up to 50% of the stadium costs for the Chiefs and Royals. And get this: the Missouri State Senate actually passed the funding bill, aiming to keep our teams in the Show-Me State.

It was a solid play on paper, but here's the rub – they waited way too damn long. By the time Kehoe and the GOP got their act together, the Jackson County Dems had already torched the deal so badly it was unsalvageable. The voter rejection had poisoned the well, Kansas was already revving up their incentives machine, and the momentum had shifted west. Too little, too late, Mike. Your "mishandling" of the timeline – as some are calling it – let the Dems' mess fester into a full-blown relocation.

So, Missouri Republicans, we gotta ask: How long are you gonna let Kansas City and St. Louis Democrat leadership trash everything good in this state? We've already waved goodbye to the Rams in St. Louis due to similar bungling, and now the Chiefs? That's both NFL teams out the door in under a decade. If the GOP doesn't start hammering down on these clowns earlier and harder – using every tool in the kit to override local screw-ups – we'll be left with zilch.

Well that's not true.  We'll have a bunch of freeways we can drive around and tell our grandkids memories of what used to be there.
