The latest spate of local gunfire turned deadly . . . Here are the first deets that KCPD is sharing with media as KCMO homicide numbers are down compared to last year but still trend upward over the past 7 years:
Homicide 3100 block of Kensington
Tonight just after 10:15pm officers were dispatched to the 3100 block of Kensington on a ‘nature unknown’ call. 911 received a call to the location asking for help from an unknown caller.
On arrival officers contacted people in the area that heard the sound of a disturbance followed by what they thought was possible gunfire.
Officers checked the area and located an adult male unresponsive on the ground next to a residence.
Officers rendered aid and called for EMS. EMS took over treatment and declared the victim deceased at the scene.
Preliminary investigation indicates the victim appears to have been shot. Investigation further appears the victim had an interaction at the location with unknown suspect(s) that led to gunfire striking the victim.
Homicide detectives are at the scene and investigating this case as a homicide. They are also working with crime scene investigators to process the scene and gather evidence.
If anyone was in the area and heard or saw anything or has any information they are asked to contact Homicide detectives directly at 816-234-5043 or the TIPS Hotline anonymously at 816-474-TIPS. There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information submitted anonymously to the TIPS hotline.
We are committed to assisting victims of violent crimes through use of Missouri’s Protection Program for Victims/Witnesses of Violent Crime. Funding for temporary, or even permanent relocation, may be available but is subject to pre-approval by the State’s administering agency.
