The city college is moving out local progressives.
The cover story: Building risk. Reality: Kangaroos don't wanna mess with the Missouri GOP Super-Majority cutting their funding for giving shelter to their greatest critics. The all-risk and little reward setup doesn't seem worth it as part of the UM system.
And so . . . Here's the aftermath as public radio desperately searches for new housing and there's no room for them in this blogger's basement . . .
"The university has been monitoring the safety of the building on 48th Street and Troost Avenue for several years. Several organizations, including KCUR and Classical KC, must be out by Jan. 31.
"The University of Missouri-Kansas City informed staff Monday that the building that houses KCUR — Kansas City’s NPR station — may soon be 'uninhabitable.' Classical KC, the organization’s classical music service, will also have to move.
"KCUR, some Kansas City Repertory Theatre offices and the KC STEM Alliance must vacate the building at 4825 Troost Ave. by Jan. 31.
"The announcement stunned KCUR staff. KCUR General Manager Sarah Morris said a move will be difficult."
