Door-to-door campaigning is a tough endeavor wherein candidates come face-to-face with the electorate in ways that aren't scripted and are more "real" than the politics we see on social media.
Sadly . . . This includes a great deal of negative interactions.

It's important for EVERYONE to realize that door-knocking isn't a crime and there will be a lot more people doing it as we get close to midterm season.
And . . .
Like it or not, this local candidate testimony offers a street level glimpse at the reality of local politics.
Here's the word . . .
"Knocking While Black: 1 day ago, while door knocking in the City of Lake Lotawana, two older residents followed and interrogated me from their car, they told me “I didn’t belong there,” and called the cops despite me explaining I’m a candidate.
"Knocking While Black Again: While door knocking in the City of Lake Tapawingo, an older woman interrupted my conversation with a resident, questioned whether I was “dangerous,” aggressively confronted me about being there, followed me down the street with a weapon, and removed my campaign literature. She refused to stop when asked.
"In both incidents: I wasn’t talking to them or engaging with them, I’m minding my business. When asked who I am, I calmly explained that I am a candidate running for office and that I had permission to knock in the neighborhood—just as I always do when I go into communities like this, but that’s never enough because it’s always followed with harassment."
