Beto Lopez Files Candidacy for Lee’s Summit Mayor
Councilmember & Mayor Pro Tem Beto Lopez to appear on April ballot
Lee’s Summit, MO – Today, Beto Lopez, Lee’s Summit City Councilmember and Mayor Pro Tem, officially filed to place his name on the April 7, 2026 ballot for Mayor of Lee’s Summit. After two terms on the City Council, Lopez announced his mayoral candidacy this past April, earning early endorsements from the Lee’s Summit Police Officers Association and Professional Fire Fighters Local 2195.
“This campaign is about having a mayor who represents everybody in Lee’s Summit. During my time on the council, I’ve built relationships and brought people together around big issues. We need a mayor who can do that, and I know I’ll be ready on the first day,” said Lopez.
Lopez’s top priorities include public safety, balanced growth, and strong leadership. With his background in finance and commercial real estate, Lopez would focus on making Lee’s Summit safe and affordable for families and businesses throughout the community.
“Councilmember Lopez has been a steadfast advocate for public safety throughout his service on the City Council. Beto Lopez does more than talk about support for first responders—he delivers. He has ensured that our firefighters have received the resources needed to meet the increasing demands of our growing community. We are confident that under his leadership as mayor, public safety will remain a top priority.” — Lee’s Summit Fire Fighters Association, Local 2195
Lopez currently serves as CEO of Guadalupe Centers, one of the largest nonprofits in the Midwest. Prior to his time on city council, Lopez served on the Lee’s Summit Planning Commission and now actively participates in Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce and Lee’s Summit Rotary Club. He also serves on the boards of St. Luke’s East Hospital, Hope Network, KC Common Good, as well as the executive board for the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce.
Lopez and his wife, Venessa, a local attorney and Lee’s Summit Municipal Judge, are deeply connected to their local community, having raised three daughters in the community they love.
“This community is everything to me. I think we have a bright future, and I’m running for mayor with a vision to realize our full potential. I believe we can preserve what makes Lee’s Summit special while moving our community forward.”
Over the past 25 years, Lopez has been an active parishioner of both St. Mark’s Parish and Our Lady of Presentation. He enjoys spending time with his family, supporting local sports, and hitting the golf course. A lifelong fan of the Kansas City Royals and Chiefs, he remains a passionate believer in the future of Lee’s Summit.
