Commish Mike Kelly Warns Of Upcoming Johnson County Tax Increases

After taking a loss in court over a tax spike . . . Check this controversial suburban leader promising more efforts to raise the cost of living for our Golden Ghetto friends: 

The county had planned to extend an existing sales tax which generates approximately $52 million annually for public safety services another ten years. However, a Shawnee County judge determined the measure didn't meet state law requirements, ruling the tax could only fund specific law enforcement facilities rather than broader services like EMS and mental health programs.

"We believed that public safety means more than just law enforcement. Public safety means EMS to me, public safety means mental health. These are essential to an ecosystem of safety within our community. So clearly, the judge disagreed," said Mike Kelly, Johnson County Commissioner Chairman.
