TKC Told You So: Guadalupe Centers Discord Backfires On Beto Lopez

Backstory . . .  

Longtime readers know that were reporting on rough feelings at GCI years ago and even hinted about lawsuits. We backed off a bit because Beto Lopez lost his sister in a tragic shooting that is now part of local history.

The background that dead-tree media doesn't provide is that THERE REMAINS tough feelings in the local Mexican-American community about the GCI takeover, Beto's role in it AND the issue continues to be unresolved.  

Now . . .

"A Lee’s Summit councilperson and mayoral candidate is currently facing a lawsuit from a former employee, alleging that he discriminated against her and fired her unfairly from a Kansas City nonprofit because of her age and disability.

"Beto Lopez has been on the Lee’s Summit City Council since 2018 He also is the CEO of Guadalupe Centers, a social service agency that has served Kansas City’s Latino community for more than 100 years.

"Now, former Guadalupe Centers Human Resources Director Shirley Folch is suing the organization, and Lopez, alleging that she faced discrimination while working there from July 2019 to June 2022."
