The race drew attention across the metro because of the undeveloped land at 119th Street and Nall Avenue, part of the Aspiria complex, where the Royals purchased the mortgage earlier this year.

The move fueled speculation the team could build a new ballpark in Overland Park.

When asked during the campaign about the site, Skoog referred to a city statement saying Overland Park “is supportive of our hometown teams” and would work to keep the Royals and Chiefs in the Kansas City region.
