"Veterans Day began as Armistice Day in 1919 to commemorate the end of World War I on November 11th, becoming a national holiday in 1938. In 1954, at the urging of veterans' organizations, it was renamed Veterans Day to honor all American veterans of all wars, not just World War I. President Eisenhower signed the bill into law, officially making November 11th a day to thank and honor all who have served in the U.S. armed forces."
