Kansas City Playlist: The Bubba Problem

Tonight we consider a very real and very dumb headline from Newsweek . . . A publication that has been degraded over time but still offers some a great deal of friendly conservative coverage and can't be completely dismissed as partisan schlock. . . Check today's disgrace and/or reality check about the state of contemporary journalism:

Newsweek: Donald Trump ‘Blowing Bubba’ Message in Epstein Emails Under Scrutiny

Actually, this take is pretty tame . . . This weekend Instagram is blowing up with THOUSANDS of low-rent pundits riffing on the rumored, alleged and stupid Beltway gossip.

Our cowtown lament . . .

We don't expect any politico from Kansas or Missouri to address "the Bubba problem" even as the Epstein crisis continues . . . From our vantage it's a missed opportunity as the discourse reaches peak ridiculousness right before 31/ATLAS might or might not solve everyone's problems

Of course, we'll reveal our bias . . .

The same people holding out hope for the Epstein files seem to forget YEARS of disappointment after waiting for the Mueller Report to take down the Prez in his first term.

Tragically . . .

Plebs waiting for systemic change in D.C. seem every bit as desperate and doomed as the characters in Waiting For Godot . . . Only with worse dialogue.

Nevertheless . . .

The political theater of the absurd serves a purpose if only to provide inspiration for our www.TonysKansasCity.com playlist tonight . . .

We'll start with classic rock . . . A ballad that was recorded by both The Everly Brothers & Roy Orbison . . . Our favorite fun fact: The popular 1974 cover by Nazareth altered a line in the song, transforming "love is like a stove" into "love is like a flame".

Let's pick things up just a bit with 90s nostalgia that somehow reminds us that Jennifer Aniston isn't doing so bad. Also, we share this track if only because it speaks to an important life lesson:

Survival is never pretty.

From the early 2000s . . . This upbeat breakup song from N'Sync reminds us that the past is prologue and never really forgotten when it comes to affairs of the heart.

For the bridge . . . A newish spin on a Carly Simon classic concerning a former love. Another fun fact, TKC was the ghostwriter for this track AND it's autobiographical . . . This achievement is part of our bloggy résumé along an extended internship with J.D. Salinger . . . Feel free to try and fact check.

Finally . . . Apropos for wistful Autumn nights, a seemingly bittersweet track about love & longing that was UNINTENTIONALLY HILARIOUS when we would occasionally witness white ladies belting it out at full volume during 2011 traffic jams thereby reminding us that old romances are better left in the past.

As always, thanks for reading this week and have a safe & fun Saturday night.
