There's plenty of food to share right now . . . However . . . Extended cutoff of taxpayer cash will inevitably strain resources . . .

"As long as uncertainty plagues the aid program, food banks and other nonprofits are expecting increased demand. And they’ll be asking for more canned food donations and financial contributions from the public.

"But no amount of individual and organizational generosity can provide a long-term solution. Only Congress and the president can do that  – by reopening the government and ensuring that food assistance payments start again unobstructed."
