Forgive our faith interlude . . . But a recent musing on Catholic traditions by a longtime local newsman shouldn't inspire hateration but ENCOURAGE locals to learn more about their faith and ALSO to have an open mind about what others believe . . .

"In every tradition, of course, there are people who get advanced college and seminary degrees in theology and the practice of ministry. People in the pews don’t need all that, as a rule, but they should be able to offer a coherent understanding of the liturgical practices and core theology of whatever faith tradition they’ve chosen to follow. Without that, they’re mostly just mum tourists."
